DESIGN WALL MONDAY - 11/29/10

Design Wall
Alot of progress was made this week.  I completed quite a few things this week and the last was done at 9 pm last night.  Not wanting to have nothing on my design wall (or floor) this morning I pulled out this project that I had started last year and sewed on it for a while.  I have alot of scraps that I was either given or acquired from members of my guild that were cleaning out their stash.  I am not sure why I needed others scraps when I have so much of my own.  Anyway when I got my GO cutter 2 years ago I cut a bunch of it in squares.  Then I received a free pattern as a promotion for joining a magazine called Scrappity Do-Dah.  I forget the designer and my mom has the pattern right now.  Anyway I modified it a lil to add my own touch and these are the resulting blocks.

Mom's wonky log cabin - Quilted
Now for my accomplishment for the week.  First I finished the quilting on my mom's quilt.  I think it came out pretty good.  The swirls are all freehand and they are as wonky as the log cabin.  I can't stitch a straight line much less stictch a perfect circle.

Next I worked on my animal print quilt.  I was on the last border when I realized I didn't have enough of the stripe.  I thought I had bought enough of the stripe at market to take care of the borders however the quilt ended up bigger than I originally planned so I purchased some more online and hope to get that top finished and ready for quilting as soon as it gets in.  I am so proud of myself since this was my first attempt at a mitered bordered.  It wasn't as difficult as I thought it was and will be doing many more now that I know I can.

I also finished up the unicorn quilt.  Now this quilt is for my coworkers wife.  I am hopiing to have it quilted so he can give to her for Christmas.  This one will be hard to get rid of b/c I collect unicorns also and my favorite color is purple same as hers.  But it must go.  I have plenty of the unicorn fabric left.  Guess I need to visit my LQS to get some coordinating fabrics so I can my own.  :)

Well off now to work.  Boys have basketball games everyday this week but Thursday. Which means busy busy mom :)  For more design wall inspiration click on over to Judy L Design Wall Monday
